Eligibility Criteria — PGCIL Recruitment 2026 for Non-Executive Posts

Here is a simplified and easy to follow breakdown of the eligibility requirements for each post:

For the Diploma Trainee (Electrical) role, candidates must have completed a full-time, three-year diploma in fields such as Electrical, Electrical (Power), Electrical & Electronics, Power Systems Engineering, or similar, from a recognized technical board or institute. A minimum of 70% marks is required for General, OBC-NCL, and EWS categories, while candidates from SC/ST/PwBD categories only need to meet the passing criteria. It’s important to note that candidates holding higher qualifications like B.E., B.Tech, M.E., or M.Tech—even if they also have a diploma—are not eligible for this post.

For Diploma Trainee (Civil), the requirement is a full-time three-year diploma in Civil Engineering, with the same minimum marks criteria as mentioned above. Just like the electrical stream, candidates with higher degrees are not eligible.

In the case of Diploma Trainee (Survey), applicants should have a full-time three-year diploma in Survey Engineering, or a Civil Engineering diploma that includes survey as a subject. The same marks criteria apply, and candidates with engineering degrees (BE/B.Tech) are not permitted.

For the Junior Officer Trainee (HR) position, candidates need a full-time three-year bachelor’s degree such as BBA, BBM, BBS, or an equivalent qualification, with at least 60% marks for General, EWS, and OBC-NCL categories. However, those with postgraduate degrees or diplomas are not eligible, as only the basic graduate qualification is accepted.

The Junior Officer Trainee (Finance & Accounts) role requires candidates to have cleared Intermediate CA or Intermediate CMA. Similar to other posts, higher qualifications like full CA, CMA, or postgraduate degrees are not considered eligible.

For Junior Technician Trainee (Survey), applicants must hold a full-time two-year ITI certificate in Surveyor trade from a government-approved institute recognized by NCVT or SCVT. Candidates with diplomas or engineering degrees are not eligible for this role.

The cut-off date for acquiring the required qualifications is 15 July 2026. Final-year or final-semester students can also apply, provided their results are declared by this date, in which case they will be considered provisionally eligible.

What is the Selection Process for PGCIL Recruitment 2026 for Non-Executive Posts

The entire selection process is conducted on a single day across the country, making it a streamlined, nationwide recruitment exercise.

Candidates must first complete their online application through the POWERGRID Careers portal, ensuring submission by 11 May 2026. After that, applicants will appear for a Computer-Based Test (CBT), which consists of 170 objective-type questions to be completed within 2 hours.

For certain positions, additional qualifying stages follow. Those applying for Junior Officer Trainee roles (HR and Finance & Accounts) must clear a Computer Skill Test (CST), where the minimum qualifying marks are 50% for UR/EWS candidates and 40% for reserved categories. Similarly, candidates for the Junior Technician Trainee (Survey) post need to pass a Trade Test, with qualifying marks set at 40% for UR/EWS and 30% for reserved candidates.

All shortlisted candidates must also undergo a pre-employment medical examination in line with POWERGRID’s standards.

It’s important to note that the final merit list is prepared solely based on CBT performance. The Computer Skill Test and Trade Test are only qualifying in nature and do not contribute to the final score. Candidates are shortlisted for these qualifying stages in a specific ratio—1:5 when there are 1 to 4 vacancies, and 1:3 when the number of vacancies is five or more.

The Computer-Based Test (CBT) is conducted online on a single day across the country and is designed to assess both technical knowledge and general aptitude.

The exam duration is 2 hours, with additional compensatory time provided to PwD/PwBD candidates as per Government of India guidelines. The test follows a negative marking system, where one-fourth of a mark is deducted for every incorrect or multiple answer.

For most posts—Diploma Trainee (Electrical, Civil, Survey) and Junior Officer Trainee (HR and Finance & Accounts)—candidates from the UR/EWS category must score at least 30% in each section and achieve a minimum of 40% overall. For reserved categories, the requirement is 25% in each section and 30% in total.

In the case of Junior Technician Trainee (Survey), the qualifying criteria are based only on overall marks. Candidates from the UR/EWS category need to secure at least 40% aggregate, while those from reserved categories must obtain a minimum of 30%.

The question paper is divided into two parts. Part I focuses on core technical or professional knowledge related to the specific discipline. Part II evaluates general aptitude, covering areas such as English vocabulary and comprehension, quantitative aptitude, reasoning ability, data interpretation and sufficiency, numerical skills, and general awareness.
